Parents play an instrumental role in supporting IMS and its mission of providing an authentic, dual language Montessori education. The IMS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was established in 2005 to support IMS’ special community of teachers, students, and families.  Since then, it has become an integral part of that community.  The vibrancy and warmth of our parent community is both a testament to, and an essential aspect of, the nurturing, child-centered environment that IMS provides for every student.

  • Lydia Kerverdo, Co-Chair
  • Sue Jensen, Co-Chair
  • Sylvia Young, Treasurer
  • Shirley Lau, Secretary

Mission

The PTA collaborates closely with parents, teachers and the school management to:

  • Provide a forum for parents and teachers to exchange views for the overall benefit of students at IMS
  • Promote a sense of community among the teachers, parents, and students
  • Enhance the educational environment at IMS
  • Encourage parents to actively participate in IMS programmes and activities
  • Assist in fundraising for PTA and school programmes

Parent Volunteers

The PTA would not be able to successfully operate without the tremendous support of our parent community.  We warmly encourage all parents to get involved for however much time they have available, whether it is a few hours a year or a few hours a month.

Volunteers Needed for the 2016-17 School Year!

Please help the PTA serve our wonderful community by signing up for one or more volunteer positions.

  • PTA Communications Support – NEW!
    • The PTA Board is looking for 1-2 volunteers to help draft communications (including emails to Class Parents and subcommittee volunteers, etc.) and manage the PTA webpage on the school’s new website. Almost all the work can be done from home and you’ll get to work closely with the PTA board (lucky you!).
  • Class Parents
    • Our team of amazing Class Parents plays a critical role at IMS. Forming the base of the PTA, they enhance our school life by building community spirit; lending support to our teachers and students; organizing class social events; assisting the PTA in rallying support for PTA events when necessary; representing their parent community at monthly PTA meetings; and helping new parents integrate into our community.
  • Library Coordinators
    • Parent volunteers are integral to the smooth-running of the IMS libraries across all four campuses. We are very blessed to be supported by an amazing team of Library Coordinators who liaise with the school librarians and PTA board, and organize volunteers.
  • Library Volunteers
    • The libraries across all four campuses cannot operate without the support of our fantastic volunteers. You can help by sorting and wrapping books; assisting with student enquiries; and helping children around the library.
  • Second Hand Uniform Volunteers
    • “Buy less, choose well” Second hand uniforms come in handy to all of us, want to help us selling them?
  • Garden Volunteers – NEW!
    • Our  Stanley campus garden needs a little TLC to blossom and grow. Please sign up if you have a green thumb and keen interest in helping our students become little gardeners.
  • Appreciation Subcommittee – NEW!
    • This new subcommittee will organize an important event: the PTA Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast (Jun 2017)
  • Picnic Subcommittee
    • Every year, the Picnic Subcommittee hosts the first event of the school year – a whole-school beach picnic! It’s a great event where old friends catch up, new parents make friends, and children get to play with each other in the sun.
  • International Fair Subcommittee
    • The ever-popular International Festival is about to become even bigger and better! We’ll have lots of food, games and FUN!
  • Memory Book Subcommittee
    • If you would like to help our children capture all the wonderful memories of school events, class activities and friends made, the Memory Book Subcommittee is perfect for you. A team of parents from all four campuses collaborates to produce a yearbook that our students love flipping through again and again, from cover to cover.
