Assessment and Eligibility

Assessment and Overview per Programme

Foundation Groups (2-3 years old)

Children will be invited for a group assessment when the child is 1.5 - 2.0 years old. A child must be at least 2 years of age to join the group in September.

Assessment: We assess each child with their parents in a small-group play environment. These assessments are generally held in the late Spring.

Casa Programme (3-6 years old)

In order to be considered for our Casa dei Bambini Programme, a child must be at least 2 years and 8 months in September of the upcoming school year. Further to Education Bureau (EDB) regulations, if a child turns three (3) after December 31st of the upcoming school year, s/he can only be considered for admission after his/her third birthday. A child may remain in the Foundation Group until a place can be found in one of the Casa dei Bambini classes.

Assessment: Your child will interact with a group of peers and teachers. One parent or caregiver may accompany the child in the interview. If your child has difficulty separating from parents, the child may be more independent if accompanied by a helper or other caregiver. Children who are already part of our Foundation Group will be assessed for a place in the Casa dei Bambini Programme within their normal routine.

Montessori Elementary (6-12 years old)

Our Montessori Elementary Years Programme is suited for children who will be 6 to 11 years of age by September 1st of the upcoming school year.

Assessment: Your child will participate together with a group of peers in order to assess their readiness for the independence and responsibility of work in a Montessori Elementary classroom. As part of this process, your child will have the time to work individually alongside the teacher to help assess academic skills. Currently, IMS does not administer a standardised test for entry.

A Student Reference Form will need to be completed by the child’s current school.
