Parent Education: Enrichment (6-12)

Enrichment

Single subject lessons play an important role in the all round development of students at IMS. Building on their experiences in the Elementary classroom environment, students are provided opportunities to explore and investigate different themes and concepts to gain a deeper understanding of them. For these lessons, classes are grouped into pods of 3-4 and mixed with other students of a similar age. This allows students to develop new friendships and connections outside of their classroom.

More information regarding each single subject lesson is provided below.

P.E. - Jump Rope Unit

It has been brilliant to see all of our students enjoying the Jump Rope unit. This unit has helped to improve the cardiovascular fitness levels of the children while having fun moving creatively with their jump ropes.

Due to the large spread of ability during these lessons, students took part in a range of self-paced learning activities which enabled them to learn at a level that challenged them.

Some children who are beginner jump ropers leave the lesson with a beaming smile after beating their consecutive jumps personal records. Whilst other children who have prior jump rope experience have added new jump rope tricks to their repertoire, and even created jump rope routines!

Information Technology

Within the Information Technology curriculum we aim to develop the students confidence in the application of their digital skills, processes, knowledge and understanding of technology through a variety of media. These core skills can enhance their learning in other subject areas and interests. We encourage the students to think critically on the benefits and challenges of technology in our daily lives and to become responsible and mindful digital citizens.

Through IT the students have the opportunity to participate in units that allow them to investigate, create, communicate, collaborate and be responsible for their own learning.

Visual Art

The Visual Arts program at IMS is designed to take each student on a journey of exploration. Exploring materials, techniques and the inspiration behind the work of great artists from around the globe. When students learn about art-making practices, using both traditional and contemporary tools, they develop the abilities necessary for self-expression and critical thought. Students not only create images and objects, but also appreciate, enjoy, respect and respond to the practices of art made by others.

Through participation in different units, students will gain knowledge and understanding of art, materials and techniques. This will help to develop their reflection and appreciation skills, plus their creativity and problem-solving skills.
