The IMS Middle School is Hong Kong’s first and only Montessori programme designed specifically for adolescents aged 12 to 14. Rooted in the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, our Middle School offers a unique, inquiry-driven, and project-based approach to education in a bilingual, multi-aged setting. This programme is tailored to meet the specific developmental needs of early adolescents, supporting them during this transformational period from childhood to adulthood.

Universal to all Montessori Adolescent Programmes is a student-run business. These ventures can take various forms, such as a bicycle shop, aquaponic farming, or a bespoke cafe, all designed to generate revenue. Students learn commitment and responsibility, real-world skills in planning, management, finance, and task coordination.
Bilingual Immersion

Students build fluency and confidence in both English and Chinese through daily instruction with co-teachers around traditional Chinese literature and poetry, as well as written, oral and visual communication necessary for their long-term project and business.
Middle School Programme Design:
Academic excellence underpins the design of each learning module, where teachers create interdisciplinary courses to deliver a highly rigorous curriculum through engaging seminars and relevant, challenging, and meaningful projects. This approach takes theoretical knowledge and applies it to real-world applications, ensuring students engage deeply with the material. Additionally, a spiral curriculum revisits key concepts with increasing depth, helping students develop and refine the skills necessary for future success.

Montessori Middle School programme focuses on real-world application, fostering independence, responsibility, and a sense of purpose. Adolescents crave meaningful work alongside adult mentors, where academic rigour blends with practical experiences through projects which kindle curiosity and passion. The inclusion of a student-run business will provide opportunities for economic independence, helping students connect their learning to the real world in a purposeful and empowering way.
Student-Run Business
A cornerstone of the Montessori Adolescent programme, the student-run business provides hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, finance, and management. Students plan, launch, market, and operate a business, using the profits to fund community projects or school initiatives. This experience teaches valuable life skills such as budgeting, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Immersive Chinese Learning
At IMS Middle School, we believe in preparing students for a globalized world. Our immersive bilingual programme ensures students are proficient in both English and Mandarin, with opportunities to use their language skills in real-world contexts. Chinese is integrated naturally into the curriculum and daily learning, allowing students to express themselves confidently in both languages.
Project-Based Experiences
Building on the foundations of the Montessori Elementary C.A.S (Creativity, Action, Service) programme, we empower our students to connect their passions with community needs through student-initiated projects. Students work with mentors to develop the key knowledge and skills to make a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Mentor Programme and Pastoral Care
Each student is paired with a faculty mentor who supports their social, emotional, and academic development. Mentors help students set personalized goals, reflect on their progress, and navigate the challenges of adolescence. This relationship ensures that every child feels supported and valued.
