In the 21st Century, as automation and AI accelerate, the value of human “soft skills” including collaboration, creativity, initiative, persistence, empathy, flexibility, and adaptability are becoming increasingly important to the future workplace.
Today, companies are scrambling to move into new creative directions, or like Blockbuster, Nokia and Sears, face being pushed out by smaller and nimbler organisations. The lesson: “Innovate or die.”
Schools must create lifelong learners to enable pivoting of skills to new roles over a lifetime of contributing in future workplaces, where the most critical skills are entrepreneurship and initiative.
