Educational Consultant

The Educational Consultant will support students and parents through the process of applying to secondary schools in Hong Kong and overseas. This role involves providing families and faculty with detailed, up-to-date information about schools and their application processes. It involves providing guidance and resources related to the application process, including support for test and interview preparation to ensure students are well-prepared for the transition from the IMS bilingual Montessori environment to other international high schools. This role also involves building relationships with secondary schools, and promoting and highlighting the benefits of an IMS education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and/or Chinese language (traditional characters).

  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications that School Leadership may find appropriate or acceptable.

  • Flexibility and understanding of the needs of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Educating students and parents about next-level secondary school ‘good fit’ options in Hong Kong and overseas. Guiding students and parents through the application process for various secondary schools, including understanding the admissions processes, application deadlines, latest trends and procedures, and helping families to explore multiple options to ensure the highest success rate in matching with their first or strong second choice schools.

  • Expanding the understanding of other lesser-known secondary schools. 

  • Sharing key information with parents regarding secondary school open days, public and private school tours, secondary school options, and application processes. Providing resources and workshops for preparing students for entrance exams and standardised tests.

  • Conducting mock interviews with students to build confidence and improve interview skills, and providing feedback and strategies for effective communication during interviews.

  • Providing one-on-one and group counselling sessions for students and parents regarding secondary school options and maintaining accurate records of these sessions and student progress.

  • Assisting students in identifying their strengths, interests, and goals to inform their school choices.

  • Creating and maintaining a database for Upper Elementary and Middle School students regarding essential information that will help support recommendations made regarding secondary schools, such as passport type, siblings' school, CV, academic performance, etc.

  • Develop a feedback mechanism/survey to determine what the most important features are for IMS students in the next school choice, and how to use this information to guide choices. 

  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and senior leaders to support students with their individual needs.

  • Creating and maintaining a database of secondary schools, application requirements, key contacts, key attributes of interest for parents, and helpful resources. 

  • Running workshops for teachers and senior leaders to inform them about secondary school options, trends, and supportive information, such as writing references for students for certain schools, so that they can guide parents and students more effectively.

  • Fostering relationships with secondary school representatives to support students during the application process and facilitate smooth transitions.
