The Lunar Year of the Rabbit is approaching fast! What fun to be making dumplings again at #IMS, and having all of our Montessori First Steps, Foundation and Casa parents celebrating the New Year with songs and stories with their little ones across all four campuses.
Our Elementary students delighted us all with a magnificent lion and dragon dance, and shared stories and songs about the Chinese New Year. #IMS Chinese faculty held our traditional Chinese New Year Fair for the elementary students to create their own traditional good luck Fai Chun, paper cut-outs, and firecrackers to decorate their homes with New Year wishes for health and prosperity.
What a joy to be able to wish everyone a Happy Year of the Rabbit!

The First Casa dei Bambini
116 years ago today, Montessori opened her first Casa dei Bambini to 50 preschool children in Rome, Italy. Through her observations and work with the children, she was astonished by their almost effortless ability to learn! Her pursuit to advocate for children and revolutionize education is the reason #IMS exists. Grazie, Maria!

Cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and panettone are always winners at any bake sale, and these couple of days, hundreds of beautifully hand-made baked items have been going like hotcakes! Our students are also selling their own jewellery, colourful resin items, Christmas decorations and homemade recycled paper! Remember to also check out the stall selling the 'aMAZEing ADVENTURE', a book recently published by Tyler from Tiber Class!
The fair ends today, so come along to finish your Christmas shopping, all in aid of charity!

At #IMS, we have amazing entrepreneurs in the making!
Craft and Creations is a small business established in 2020 by some of our Upper Elementary students. As the Winter Performance celebrations approach, they are working hard. They will be selling their products at the #bakesale this week. We hope to see you there!

Happy #Thanksgiving! We are grateful that we can welcome parents back in to school again, for activities like today's Thanksgiving sharing!
Some of our American parents told the story of Thanksgiving, and our children reflected on things they are grateful for. Why not have a discussion on #gratitude with your children tonight over dinner?

It's Harvesting Season! Our #IMS parent volunteers have been guiding Elementary students in harvesting Egg Plants and preparing for the next season. Today, the children learnt to plough soil and plant potatoes. Can't wait for our very own mashed potatoes in 3 months!

We had our first inter-school sports competition in 3 years this week! #IMS welcomed #wycombeabbey to Stanley for a friendly netball match, and for many of our children, this was their first time. It was an afternoon of excitement for all - athletes, teachers and parents alike - and we look forward to many more matches across different sports!

In a Montessori classroom, helping to care for the environment is an essential part of being a member of a community. This does not mean just cleaning and tidying up, but also enhancing the environment. For example, flower arranging provides the child with an opportunity for artistic expression whilst also preparing them for mathematical concepts. Math? Yes! The child measures the flower stem against the vase, and the volume of water used. Artistic expression? Yes! The child chooses the vase, the flowers they would like, the arrangement and even the placement of the flowers in the classroom. The result is a wonderful sense of satisfaction and ownership for the child.

All Casa classes were buzzing with Open House activity today! It was great to welcome all Casa parents back to school, and the kids loved sharing their work with mum and dad. Hear what one parent said:
"We were so impressed with the maths work my child was doing today. When the addition of thousands were split up into tiny steps, it all made sense! We really admire your calm demeanor too. No wonder the busy classroom is soo peaceful.Thank you for showing us the magic of Montessori again!"

Children in the Casa dei Bambini environment use the Sensorial materials to develop and refine their senses exploring many qualities including dimension, size, and shape. The child’s experience with these materials becomes the foundation for later learning in other areas. For example, building the Pink Tower from biggest to smallest helps the child to develop sequencing and grasping skills useful for mathematics and writing. Exploring shapes with the Geometry Cabinet drawers, help children develop their oral language, pincer grip, and wrist movements important for writing.
