Charity breakfasts have made a roaring comeback! It has been great to welcome parents to share in delicious food prepared by their children, all in aid of 2 wonderful causes benefitting children in need: Mother's Choice and Child Haven. We are so happy to be able to resume this meaningful and memorable event for our Casa community!

Our Lower Elementary and Casa children had an eventful week enjoying outdoor camps! It was the first time for some of the children to experience snorkelling, abseiling, and kayaking in Cheung Chau Island, whilst the Casa kids met and fed alpacas in Butterfly Valley and sailed across the lake on pedal boats. Fortunately, the weather remained dry and the kids came home with beautiful alpaca DIY money banks and alpaca soft ornaments.

It's been a while since our Casa children had a day out, and excitement was in the air last week as they headed to local farms! Many were thrilled as they fed fish, a giant turtle, goats, and more! Both adults and kids had a real ‘kids' day out’ on the zipline and in the playground!

Our Upper Elementary students just had the adventure of a lifetime at our 3-day Cheung Chau camp! From climbing cliff walls to kayaking in the ocean, they challenged themselves in ways they never thought possible. And who needs a kitchen when you can cook up a storm in the great outdoors? Life is truly different at the beach!

IMS students sell their crafts at Discovery Bay Market
Maria Montessori knew the power of connecting student learning with real-life experience. We also know the importance of students developing 21st-century learning skills. When these students decided they wanted to design and make their own crafts to sell at the Discovery Bay market, they had a lot of fun. But most importantly, they are engaging in deep, powerful, and relevant experiences that prepare them for the future.

#IMS in the news!
We were delighted today to be featured in Sing Tao newspaper's Parenting Supplement Smart Parents 親子王 ! The article beautifully captured the reporter's wonder and awe at witnessing Montessori in action at IMS - from the children's deep concentration and motivation to the fabulous materials, and of course, our unique bilingual programme!
感謝 星島 Smart Parents 親子王 讓更多家長認識 IMS!

This week at #IMS has been all about books!
We have been lucky to meet award-winning picture book author Rachel Ip, whose stories like The Last Garden are often inspired by real-world events or experiences. Katie & Kevin Tsang presented their award-winning Dragon Realm youth fiction series, sharing their creative process with our UE students. Our LE met Gavin Coates, a local cartoonist and children’s book author whose beautiful stories like The Last Nut promote a love of our planet. Finally, Chinese author Cui Li-Jun 崔麗君 enthralled all our Casa and Elem children with her magical 春夏秋冬 Four Seasons series.
On the last day of Book Week, the children (and some teachers) celebrated by coming to school dressed up as their favourite book characters!

Happy International Women's Day!
As we salute women on this special day, did you know that many amazing women went to #montessori schools? Famous chef Julia Child, Author and Diarist Anne Frank, Actress Helen Hunt, and Ann Sullivan who was Helen Keller's teacher and who used Montessori methods to teach her famous student. And there is one more huge one - can you spot her in this picture of her Montessori school and guess who she is?

We are ecstatic to have enjoyed our Casa dei Bambini (3-6) #sportsdays this week! For the first time in three years, our parents, children, and teachers engaged in a series of fun athletic games amidst the fresh breezes and warm early March sunshine at the Hong Kong Cricket Club and Quarry Bay Sports Grounds.
This event brings families together across campuses and marks a return to the full complement of events that makes life at #IMS so engaging and exciting for our children.

One of the most fascinating parts of a Montessori environment is the incredibly concrete maths materials. These take our Casa children from basic numbers all the way to dynamic multiplication and division, squaring and cubing to 1,000, and exploring fractions.
At our Casa Montessori Evening, parents received a hands-on experience of our entire maths programme!

Today our #IMS Elementary students were out and about in Hong Kong!
Planning, preparing and then executing field trips that Maria Montessori called "Going Out". This is an essential component of "connecting learning to the real world" that makes a #Montessorieducation so powerful.

Tell me, and I forget
Show me, and I may remember
Involve me, and I learn.
On the surface two pretty mundane academic skills:
Finding common multiples (in the traditional classroom, this is usually taught after tables have been learnt at the Upper End of Elementary - In the #montessori Classroom, Lower Elementary students discover this concept far earlier than in traditional school)
What are collective nouns (in the traditional classroom, these normally appear around late lower Elementary to early Upper Elementary - Montessori, middle of lower Elementary)
Do you remember how and when you learnt these? Montessori environments allow students to learn anything at any age.

Celebrating the gift of love and friendship over heart-shaped pizzas! Lower elementary students learned about the different ways Valentine’s Day is celebrated around the world. They then planned, purchased and followed their recipe. What better way to someone's heart than through their stomach!
Happy #Valentine's Day 💕 🍕
